Vampire Weekend – Vampire Weekend

Rating: 3.7 / 5

The Music Rag One Sentence Review: These New York college kids make some highly overhyped but ultimately enjoyable African-influenced pop, if you can get past the preppy douchebag image.

Best moments: “A-Punk” is rapid, frantic, and danceable and “Oxford Comma” is a sunny joy of a tune. “Walcott” serves as the album’s excellent climax, though the pretensions in the lyrics represent some of the most off-putting aspects of the band.

Location, location, location: Apparently, Vampire Weekend are not satisfied with traditional recording studios. Besides the studio, some songs appearing on the album were recorded in Brooklyn apartments, a basement, and even a barn. Rumor has it that Vampire Weekend’s next album will be recorded mainly in a Kinko’s parking lot and an as yet unspecified utility closet.
