Nobody is looking for anything resembling profound musical statements from 311, and no one is expecting them to create anything which challenges the boundaries of music, so if one keeps his expectations low while listening to Uplifter the lack of originality is much less glaring; it’s not that it’s bad music, it’s just utterly and completely unremarkable in every possible way.

The Offspring – Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace

Let’s face it – The Offspring have been on cruise control since Smash, and while they have churned out a couple of successful, if not quirky, singles their albums have been, for the most part, full of fluff; unmemorable and alarmingly uninspired – but Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace does a fairly decent job of reversing this trend; there are no gimmicks a la “Original Prankster” or “Pretty Fly” and that goes a long way in legitimizing the album as a whole…it’s not perfect but it is definitely more balanced. Metallica - St. Anger

All the charm of an album by a band that sounds like it hasn’t even been formed yet; a bunch of long-haired, beer drenched, B.O. soaked 10th grade drop outs who woke up at one in the afternoon to jam in a friend’s garage without realizing they didn’t even have a bassist.
