Black Lips – 200 Million Thousand

February 16th, 2009 Posted in Album reviews, News

Black Lips further differentiate themselves from today’s pack of dirty, lo-fi, garage rockers with their absolute dedication to real, tactile, filth – particularly on tracks like the Velvet Underground-style pop song “Starting Over”, the theatrically sinister “Trapped in the Basement”, and album climax “I Saw God”, highlighted by its expletive-laden trailer park monologue.
Slumdog 200 Million Thousandaires: A few weeks back, Black Lips were touring India and got up to their usual onstage antics (nudity, making out with each other), unknowingly setting off a soon-to-be-infamous chain of events. They were threatened with arrest and, not wanting to see what prisons look like in rural India, were forced to abruptly escape the country. The whole story straight from the band and a bit of video.
